The Giants will be feted with a ticker tape parade in downtown Manhattan Tuesday morning. The parade will begin at Battery Place and Washington Street at 11 a.m. and continue northbound up the Canyon of Heroes to Worth Street. The parade will be followed by a ceremony at City Hall Plaza, where Mayor Bloomberg will present the Giants with keys to the city. More details here.

And will there be an event for the?Jersey Giants fans at the stadium itself? Governor Christie, who got to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy last night, apparently is working on it.For our younger readers, ticker tape refers to a vanished technology in which long rolls of narrow paper were fed through machines to transmit stock prices by telegraph. Back in the day, it was shredded to make confetti. For the last Giants ticker tape parade, the city purchased half a ton of confetti, recycled from packing materials, from Atlas Materials of Brooklyn. The tradition of celebratory ticker tape falling into the streets of downtown Manhattan began in 1886, when Wall Street office boys unfurled rolls of ticker page out high bank windows in celebration of the Statue of Liberty.
