Renting With Bad Credit

Renting with bad credit can be difficult. However, there are a few things you can do to better your chances of signing a lease.

First things first, know your credit score! If it isn?t good, you may be hesitant to talk about your score but keep in mind that we take different circumstances and situations into consideration when evaluating your rental application. You can check your credit score online with many different websites such as freecreditreport.com

Including a written statement about why your credit score isn?t high can help as well. We know that times are tough and the circumstances are different for everyone.

Put down a large deposit. This helps show that you are capable of making your monthly payments even if you have some discrepancies on your credit report.

If you set up automatic payments it helps take the uncertainty away of whether or not you?ll make the payment and/or make it on time.

Offering additional references such as a previous landlord can help as well.

If your application still isn?t showing enough credit you can get a co-signer. Whether it?s a parent, friend, co worker. Anyone with good credit that will vouch for you is welcome to co-sign on your lease.

And last but not least, finding a roommate with good credit can not only help get you into an apartment but also will help cut down the monthly expenses. If you know someone, great! If not, there are online forums for finding a roommate or websites such as roommatefinder.com. Do take caution with these sites, however. You may not want to move into a place with someone that you know absolutely nothing about.

After following some of these steps there is a better chance that signing a lease is in your future! G&H is here to help!
